![]() As the TIME article and Upward Spiral book from UCLA Neuroscientist Alex Korb so nicely points out: even the mere thought process of "searching for what you are grateful for" activates the neurotransmitters dopamine and serotonin, just like antidepressant drugs that aim to uplift you. If you struggle with depression or negative self-talk, give this practice a try and experiment with your own mind to see what happens. Become a researcher of your mind and get curious about how the quality and content of your thoughts. Remember, what you focus on expands so if your thoughts are consumed with negative, ungrateful inner dialouge, chances are you are being given ample reminders of just how much your life sucks. If you are ready to TAKE YOUR POWER BACK and live from a place of greater depth, passion, purpose and happiness, give this little experiment a try. Go "all in" and focus on the positive in your life. Utilize your time wiself, if you find yourself utterly lost in thought at random times throughout the day, then choose to use that time to consciously think about all the things your life you can be grateful for. Search for the obvious and keep digging deeper. Focus on whatever you can to be grateful for, even if is it merely the air you breathe, the water you are blessed to be drinking, or the bed you have to sleep on. So many of us in the Western, developed world suffer from depression and yet we have the most to be grateful for. Our lives are filled with abundance and yet we choose to focus on what isn't working or what we don't yet have... Give this gratitude practice your undivided attention. Be open to the possibility that it has the power to immediately uplift you and shift you out of any funk you might be feeling. Write down the first 5-10 things you can think of that you are grateful for in your life. Really feel them. Embrace them. Embody them. And share them. Let us lift each other up today as we end our week in gratitude and send a ripple of thanksgiving around the world. In Love & Gratitude for this community of courageous seekers on a mission to live their best life and make a positive impact in this world we all share...
