Self-Care Tips to Help Process Through Trauma That May Be Coming Up Right Now

Can I be honest with you?

I've been feeling triggered. Have you been feeling it too? Keep reading for self-care tips to help process all that is up right now.

This past week and last weekend, I watched and read as much as I could on both sides of the Ford/Kavanaugh hearing, I listened to both testimonies and read various news outlets comments. I always listen 

My intention was to listen with an open mind and heart in order to build a bridge of compassion that extends beyond a person's actions.

I do this in every relationship in my life and facilitate this process with my clients as an integral tool to help heal past and present struggles in relationships with others. 

Even with the best of intentions, I ended up feeling triggered. As I processed through my emotions, I wrote this prayer and if it feels right, pray it with me...
Today I pray for the healing of humanity… 
For a mass awakening of our hearts and minds, 
Forgiveness that heals across all space and time.

That we shall treat all living beings with utmost dignity, respect and be kind,
No matter who they are, what they look like, what they believe, who they love, or what they've done or been accused of doing, even if they've crossed a line. 

I pray to always see the whole self of another, and from that place
In a loving, grounded and fierce way that leaves no room for misinterpretation
Set ground rules of decency and boundaries as to what is and isn't acceptable behavior. 

I pray for the strength to speak up,
Use my voice and listen with an open heart and mind
As I seek first to understand rather than be understood.

That we find common ground
And focus on what unites us more than what separates us.

I pray we return to basic principles of decency
And eradicate the illusion of the separation our differences portray.

That we work together to create a world where are our children are loved
By healthy and whole parents
To shatter the patterns of abuse in our collective experience. 

I pray all beings be set free
From the darkness of their own minds,
From programming they have been subjugated to without knowing
Causing them to think, feel, see, act and behave according to unconscious
and biased programming. 

I pray all beings be happy and free.
That we collectively awaken
Enlightening our mind,
Embodying our soul
And living empowered lives.

May Light and Love be restored on Earth. 
Amen.

Here are few things you can do support yourself...

💛Drink herbal tea, slow down, light a candle and journal 
💛Allow your emotions to rise up, let them move
💛Don't push them back down or deny them, let them move through you
💛Get outside and let nature soothe your soul
💛Take long walks and hot baths
💛Let yourself be hugged by someone you trust
💛Talk to a friend, therapist or coach
💛Spend time in meditation to let all the overwhelm go.
